A trilogy of cultural lineages and ancestral storytelling has taken to the stage as part of Burrbgaja Yalirra 2.
Premiering at Carriageworks in April before touring to Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts in May, Burrbgaja Yalirra 2 showcased three new works — No New Gods a mesmerising solo by Filipinx performance artist Bhenji Ra; Bloodlines by duo Broome-based Aboriginal (Kunjen) and Torres Strait Islander (Erub/Meriam) dancer Ses Bero, and Nouméa based Kanak/Ni Vanuatuan/Papua New Guinean dancer Stan Nalo; and multidisciplinary Nyuju by Bunuba/Gooniyandi/Walmajarri/Wangkatjunka dancer and actor Emmanuel James Brown.
Selling out for its final nights in Perth, Burrbgaja Yalirra 2 was a little look into the future of contemporary art. Since commencing in 2017, the multiyear development and presentation program has supported seven artists.
