Marrugeku reunited with our Kunwinjku families in October and November of this year, spending three days in Gunbalanya, west Arnhem Land reflecting and reconnecting. Our co-artistic directors, Dalisa Pigram and Rachael Swain, shared stories, recordings, photos and videos with the remaining dancers in the community where we worked on our first projects: Mimi and Crying Baby. This emotional journey was an incredible opportunity to reconnect with powerful memories and discuss plans for the 25th anniversary of our first production, Mimi, which will take place in 2020.
Did you know Marrugeku premiered their first work Mimi in 1996 and toured the work throughout Arnhem Land later that year? Marrugeku began its international touring life the following year. Explore photos of the original production on our website here before visiting our Facebook page to check out some happy snaps of the team recently on the road for the reunion.
