Ngurragabu World Premiere Announced! October 2026

We are thrilled to announce that Marrugeku’s major new work, Ngurragabu [from the last night/next/tomorrow], will have its world premiere at Sydney Festival, 21–23 January 2027, at Carriageworks on Gadigal Country.

Presented as part of the internationally renowned Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels programme, Marrugeku is proud to be the only Australian company featured in this internationally renowned celebration of contemporary dance, which makes its Australian debut in 2027.

Joining some of the world’s most distinguished dance companies, Marrugeku brings its distinctive Indigenous-led, intercultural performance practice to the international stage.

Enter the world of Ngurragabu
Imagining a future beyond climate collapse, Ngurragabu is a powerful new dance theatre work exploring survival, transformation and radical adaptation.

Audiences are invited to step inside visual artist Abdul-Rahman Abdullah’s vast petrified mangrove forest where dance, music and striking visual design combine to rewild the future.

Envisioned in dialogue with Yawuru and Bardi custodians, choreographer Dalisa Pigram and director Rachael Swain’s latest work draws on a powerhouse ensemble of Indigenous and settler-diasporic performers from Australia, South East Asia and Melanesia to question the cost of survival.

For those who have followed Ngurragabu’s creative journey, we are delighted to share this exciting next chapter and invite you to experience the work’s world premiere.
